A Favorite Painting from Last Year

Here is a paintings from last year that I am very fond of. Tom Thompson and Franklin Carmichael are my favorite painters from Canada’s Group of Seven. Although I can not paint like either, and nor do I want to, I am most intrigued by their focus on a powerful design and a love of pattern in both shapes and in color. The simple beauty of an aspen grove mixed in with conifers provides an opportunity to explore design and pattern. That was the driving force behind this piece. Chris framed this painting in American black cherry and walnut with some beautiful Kokomo stained glass embellishments. Painting this was a fun challenge and it brings back good memories of this particular grove of aspens in peak color. This painting is sold.
